Stoically, he sits behind his desk, the walls behind him speaking volumes of his work. Sanjay Joshi is an artist and an architect \u2013 each of his work surpassing the other. Like an artist he notes things that inspire him, makes anecdotes around them and form them into a narrative and then meticulously translates each back story into his work or shall we say his piece of art. He has a restless energy about him, one that\u00a0makes you uncomfortable and curious at the same time, one that surrounds an artist who knows his art and improvises on it at the same time, constantly, relentlessly and with the love of a parent honing his masterpiece.<\/p>\n
Mr. Joshi completed his architecture degree around two decades back and worked at a few places for brief periods (we are not surprised) before he realized that he wasn\u2019t cut for a job and left. Needless to say, it took patience to drive down his point to the parents. He started bottoms-up acquiring ground level skills like carpentry, coloring, making Plaster of Paris. He did a few interior design projects and kept at his skill polishing regimen. That hunger is still ravenous \u2013 he travels extensively, reads and takes copious notes and yearns to create things that would not leave a feeling of regret that this could have been better.<\/p>\n
Quoting interesting analogies, Mr. Joshi says that a client and a designer are parallel tracks of a railway line \u2013 and an adroit architect\u2019s job is convincing a client and make them coincide. The better the chemistry, the better the results and that should be driven by superior workmanship. The only way to have a happy client is to not talk about your design to him, but to get his design out. He still sketches everything himself \u2013 because it takes a computer to make a design but it takes an artist to breathe life into it.<\/p>\n
He holds pride in the fact that his clients trust him and his decisions even if they may cause initial discomfort. He has broken hearts and told clients that their projects are at best compromises and at worst worthless. But that\u2019s what makes him respected and loved \u2013 for a doctor knows that the bitterness of the medicine is worth it. It is not for nothing that he is the most celebrated architects in Surat and around with various esteemed projects under his belt.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
