There was a definite shift on Planet Food when Jamnadas Bhai decided to join food business to feed his rather large family of 20 people. What started as a tummy feeder went on to become a much loved dish by Surtis and a revered organization or as we call it Farsan Mart. Don\u2019t be beguiled by the simple fa\u00e7ade of their shop in Chauta Bazar where the indisputable Ghari King started his career. Behind the calm faces and an unassuming set up is a thriving and six sigma compliant Ghari making enterprise that has made its mark on every Surti \u2013 here and abroad.<\/p>\n
It was hard to manage a day that was filled with constant orders. But slowly and steadily the structure came together, processes were set up, systems designed and steps written to the T and delegated to various members of the family. Giving a twist to the traditional recipe of Ghari made with rawa and sugar, the family then experimented with various textures and flavors adding besan flour, coconut, mawa, elaichi, etc. in varied quantities giving us the variety of Gharis that we feast on today.<\/p>\n
More than 100 years old, this enterprise is a sweet ballad to the ears and taste buds of everyone who thinks that you need to be wearing ties and suits, look dapper and speak swish English to run an establishment this big, take it new highs and yet be grounded firm in their values.<\/p>\n
When asked about the current generation and their plans, Atul and Manoj bhai who run the set-up said that today the lads are too smart and much more intelligent than what we were back then, but the only problem with them is the impatience. He gets into a rather preachy mode and notes that the only way to be successful is to have that zeal to do any work, however small it may be.
