A little confused, as I ambled my way through the hip new kitsch meets cutesy décor of Slurrp, I felt the mitochondria in my cells yearning for energy and goodness packed health smoothies. Or so they claimed. Because there was much more than that – a staple fare of all familiar foreign dishes like pastas, pizzas, sizzlers, the pita breads and hummus. While I’m not sure if they lost their way into a health restaurant, I wasn’t complaining. The hunger in me was raging and boy it did it get satisfied!!

We express ordered all these dishes (yes our metabolism rates are high) and gobbled them up before we could finish discussing Rakhi Sawant’s latest publicity stunt. The skinny Pizza Margherita (I think they named it to retain the health café tag: D) came packed with oodles of melt-in-the-mouth cheese. Spaghetti Ortaggio was saucy with the right blend of spices and vegetables. And unlike other restaurants we’ve been eating at, the vegetables didn’t look like lauki in its last stages. They were crisp and fresh and complemented the spaghetti well.

Just then a sudden realization struck that we were in a health café and had nearly forgotten to sample any smoothies/shakes and promptly asked for Berry Blast. It was thick and refreshing and did manage to negate the guilt of eating all the pizzas and pastas. Cleansed off the guilt, I think we ordered a few more dishes (I forget what all coz by now the stomach was well healed and we were kind of dazed). I only remember the pita bread with hummus because it was kind of hard. The manager did replace it promptly though when we brought that to his notice.
The food by far is the best I’ve eaten in Surat although the food portions were a tad too small and could do with some generosity. It is indeed a health café (Sarcasm Alert ON!) for the taste buds and not for that waistline if you intend to watch that unless you order only the Smoothies.
Go there for a refreshing take on Smoothies. SLURRP
A meal for 3 costs ~2000 INR. A tad high for Surat and for the portion sizes
Getting there: Slurrp Café, LG 3/4 KG House, Besides Kakadia Complex, Ghod Dod Road, Surat, India
