KOAN: A Unique Home Decor Exhibition

KOAN: A Unique Home Decor Exhibition

Each person in the world is different and has their own beautiful sound in the symphony of life. What matters, is to find that string of individualism buried deep within oneself and weave it with the right amount of passion and determination and let the magic happen. The inception of KOAN is a testimony to this idea, where not one, but four strong-headed architects and interior designers came together with a collective intention to collaborate and create something extraordinary and ended up with an array of designer home decor items that could alter the aura of any space that adorns them.

KOAN is an exclusive exhibition of beautifully designed objects and artefacts that have flowed out of pure artistic hearts. The exhibition will showcase all kinds of home decor products ranging from cushion covers, table mats, runners, trays and coasters to a variety of wall artworks and much more.

What’s the Inside Story?

Jaba Champaneria, Saloni Shah, Mili Dalal & Niti Vishal are all leading architects and interior designers of Surat, who have been using their knack for creativity in their own humble spaces for quite sometime. Despite of sharing the same expanse as their professional field of work, they all are uniquely different in their own ways. About six months ago, one fine day the then acquaintances decided to embark on a creative journey and KOAN was born. The powerful pact filled with ingenious energy, not only turned their association into friendship of a lifetime but also created an unimaginable synergy of their complementary expertise.

The entire assortment of KOAN is a well-thought of, designer home decor and furnishing products that are mainly curated around five major themes, inspired by nature, to represent the binding force of universe. The five motif based theme, which again have a set of color palette of their own, are:

– Ganesha; denoting festivity and the auspicious start of everything and representing the Universe itself

– Lotus; denoting the beauty of spring and representing the element Earth

– Hummingbird; denoting the idea of finding goodness within oneself and representing the element Sky

– Butterfly; denoting how change is the only constant in life and representing the element Air

– Seahorse; denoting perseverance, calmness and contentment and representing the element water

What’s in the name?

A Koan is a story, dialogue, question, statement, paradoxical anecdote or riddle without a solution, used in Zen Buddhism practice to provoke the “great doubt” and demonstrate the inadequacy of logical reasoning, thereby testing a student’s progress in Zen practice and provoke enlightenment.

Team KOAN explains that while looking for an apt name for their association, they came upon this profound idea and instantly fell in love with it. Identifying the uniqueness and potential of each one of them, they perceive KOAN as a platform that allows them to give form and shape to their love of designing. And with passion for colours and a keen eye for beauty, they have explored different media and techniques to create the beautiful range for this exhibition.
