In a vibrant, colorful country like India, it’s easy to lose oneself in the changing trends, but Avisha & Ilakshi Agarwal created a clothing brand that has brought minimalist & evergreen clothes back in the mainstream fashion. Hailing from a progressive Marwadi family, this sister duo has seen a fair share of bling in their lives, yet their inclination always swayed towards simple and breathable style. With their designer garments that breathe effortlessness and freedom, their brand has brought a fresh wave of change in comfort-clothing and apparel industry. Here’s the journey of these girls who at a very young age made a distinct name for themselves:
The Beginning:
Like many, Avisha & Ilakshi always looked up to their mother when it came to dressing up. While growing up the sisters could always see her being up to date with the trends, yet have a distinct sense of fashion, which she carried like a lady who owns it. Maybe, this is when the love for simple, classic clothing took roots in the little girls. And as teens, they realized that clothing is a form of self-expression and one can always find hints of ‘who you are’ in ‘what you wear’. Their brand came to life by a pure turn of fate, around 2014, when Avisha & Ilakshi decided to make their own clothes, something that was simple, graceful, comfortable, and could be worn from 9 to 5, without any hustle. Their basic idea to dress themselves, got them a lot of praises along with requests to make more and sell. Their exclusive designs caught the eye of many minimalist lovers and fashionistas and eventually gave birth to their evergreen brand, ‘The Right Cut’.
The Right ‘Turn’:
Avisha’s & Ilakshi’s line of everyday clothing is all about what they would love to wear themselves and not at all about what the trends are in the industry. One fine day, they got involved in a discussion, on what could be the name of their brand, that would describe their idea of comfortable yet distinctively stylish clothing, deservedly. And during this chance conversation, their father suggested the name ‘The Right Cut’. They believe that in a world full of unique individuals with different body shapes, a perfect, figurative body cannot exist. Thus, their clothes stand for beauty that cannot be defined by any shape or size; it has clothes for all kind of bodies. Afterall, elegance and beauty are not size-specific, while every lady deserves to look the best version of herself and not a replica of a standard.
Discovering the Ramp:
Although the sisters’ duo was completely new to the fashion industry, they were able to showcase their collection at Lakme Fashion Week within a year of the inception of ‘The Right Cut’. They reminiscent the event as a lifetime experience, as that is where the actual wave of fashion originate from in India and it was huge step for them to become a part of it, at such an early stage. Grateful for the national level platform that the runway provided, they feel their brand is ever evolving with each new day. Lakme Fashion Week definitely gave them the aspirational boost they needed and provided cues to pave their own, unique way further. This appearance marked the epoch of their journey, as their network grew and their collection received a lot of impressed nods from the fashion fraternity. Their clothes are available in various outlets across borders and in 13 different cities of India. Featured in the Vogue Magazine, ‘The Right Cut’ has surely created ripples in and around the country.
