Mexican food has quickly become a favourite amongst adaptive Surti palette. The tacos, the nachos, the quesadillas have taken over the humble fafda (think starters) or the road side Frankie. The best place and perhaps the only place we would go to for our Mexican fix would be Mexican Rodeo. It was an innovative venture started in 2012 by two people, Mohit Sethia and Murli Rungta, who had little idea about food industry but thoroughly understood the Indian and specifically Surti taste buds.
As a pioneer of the food truck concept in an organized fashion in Surat, Mexican Rodeo has added to the famous Lhari culture of Surat. Although Surat is famous for its street food served on mobile Lharis, there was certainly a lack of a La New York-style food trucks – hygienic and serving food on the go with consistent food taste and quality.
The concept they had was quite unique. On being asked on what gave them the idea , Mohit tells us,” Mexican Cuisine has flavours quite similar to Indian. Our menu has been designed with a lot of cheese and spice. Two things that Surtis love on their plate.” This was not something that happened over night, they did their research and taste-testing for over 6 months as both of them had very little knowledge when it came to the food industry. They took in a lot of suggestions and feedbacks and finally created a sustainable model menu.

They have recently ventured into a Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) format at VR mall. This was something new to them. Rodeo has now spread its wings and has nine branches in all across Vadodara, Indore and now Vallabh Vidhyanagar. Surat is home to them even though they have their branches in other cities. The success and the growth have come from a lot of detailing and proper planning. Mohit added that the kitchen has been designed in a way that 7-10 minutes is the maximum preparation time for any dish. The process becomes quite quick because of the high end equipments they use. AH! Don’t we all just love it when we get our food quickly when our stomachs are rumbling and cravings are peaking. Great Going Rodeo !
The flavours they offer are drool-worthy and everyone is taco’ing about it. To add that Mexican spice on your plates, head over to Mexican Rodeo. Let’s start thinking outside the bun!
