The first gem we bring to you through our ‘They Chose Arts’ blog series is – Mimansa, an emerging music band that has been slaying the crowd with musical notes right from their college campus to various soulful events & cafes in the city.

The Beginning:

When four music fanatics and college goers came together to lose themselves in the mesmerizing world of rhythms and beats they didn’t know they are building the base of an upcoming music band. It is hard to believe that Yash Lokwani, Lakshya Bihani, Shivang Patel & Sparsh Punamiya, who are as young as 19 to 21 years old, create melodies that enter the listeners through the ears and reach their hearts.

The band name is inspired by a Sanskrit word, ‘mimamsa’ that means ‘reflection’ or ‘comprehension’. The genesis of Mimansa traces back to a fine day of 2016 when a random music jamming session in the car led the friends to make a band for their college event. They fondly recollect that the event never happened but the band did. After releasing their first music video in the same year, they went on to perform at numerous events and cafes, in and around Surat. And shaped Mimansa to become what it is today.

The Inside Story:

They say that music is poetry to the soul, it heals and revives the heart & mind. But everyone has a distinct taste when it comes to it; each of us connects to music in different ways. They feel that their biggest strength up until today has been versatility. Before performing anywhere, they almost always analyze the audience, gauge their taste and produce songs that align well with their preferences. Even during their regular weekly shows at the cafe, they first understand what kind of audience they have at the moment and start accordingly. Thereafter, they often receive song requests from someone in the audience and they happily play along. Although Surat as a city is changing rapidly and so is its taste, they still accept each song request with much delight and passion – whether it is for playing a John Lenon or an Arjit Singh special. Thus, each show ends with a satisfying surprise for them as well. After all, where the words fail, music speaks.

The Right Chord:

From being students from various fields of study to an aspiring businessman and interior designer, all four of them have a defined career path to take and traverse. But one thing that binds them all is music. Music has always tended to touch a chord deep buried within us, and it goes to another level when you feel the live energy emanating from it.
