Ria Mohindra: Wielding the Art of Oratory

The power of public speaking has been known to man since one can remember; a person with a knack at it always holds a competitive edge on others. In 2004, at the Democratic National Convention, when Obama delivered one of the most compelling speech in the modern history, he at once became a household name and won over a thousand millions hearts in a single shot. Ria Mohindra’s journey from being the girl next door to winning the annual TIMES Public Speaking Contest, 2016, gives us some valid insights on how oration can alter the dynamics of cause and effect of life.

  • What prompted her to pursue Public Speaking Course?

Oration is an art to not only address the masses but make them believe in the matter of speech. It is a means to influence the world. Ria has been interested in public speaking since her childhood, but her fascination with oration reached the peak in her high school days. While pursuing MBA, she has been participating in end number of competitions and events like MUNs (Model United Nation), debates, extempore, etc, in and outside her school and college, which helped her in building confidence and credence in her ability to address the masses. This is the point when she realized the need to further polish her skill and test its potency.

  • How did TWAD help her?

Communication being Ria’s forte, she joined TWAD  to improve her oratory skills. When she first met Sagar Papneja, founder of TWAD, she knew she had the confidence and the potential which a person with a penchant for public speaking has but lacked the ability to  create content and that is where TWAD came in the picture. TWAD not only honed her with their flagship professional course on public speaking but also helped in rectifying her issues with content building. TWAD helped her in overcoming her shortcomings and all her concerns were resolved once she joined the course.

  • Her experience of the whole competition:

TIMES Group is considered as a very reputed and well-known organization and for it organize such an event in Surat is a huge thing. People from Surat, Bardoli, Navsari and many other places participated, which turned out to be a boon as it helped her in realizing where she stands and came across as a means of testing for herself. Being an extempore public speaking competition, no one was aware of the topics and were given only 10 minutes time for the preparation of speech which numerous people would listen to and she believes it to be an incredible thing. Competitions like these help a person in assessing their knowledge and thought process, moreover they also encourage giving opinions as one can mold the topic the way they like, without any constraints.

  • Her conviction on Public Speaking:

Once Adage said, “First impression is the last impression”, Ria too believes it to be true. She is of the opinion that a person with good oratory skills can leaving a lasting impression on other people. A person’s intelligence and sincerity can be easily judged by the way they speak and an overall persona can be figured. Public speaking has helped Ria in developing her personality. TWAD with its unique and practical ways of teaching has helped her achieve goals and anyone with an urge and passion for public speaking too can join TWAD to achieve their own aspirations.
